Photovoltaic systems for Coop Nord Ovest

Coop Nord Ovest is one of the leading co-operatives in the large-scale retail sector in Italy. The consortium contracted SICE Impianti to design and build a photovoltaic system on the roof of the refrigerated logistics warehouse in Rivalta Scrivia, (AL).

The installation consists of a grid-connected photovoltaic system. This is a solar energy system that is connected to the public electricity grid. It is designed to generate electricity through the use of photovoltaic panels and to share the energy produced with the national grid.

A total of 5155 high-efficiency monocrystalline LONGi modules of 420 Wp each were used for the photovoltaic system, with a total output of 2165.10 kWp. The electricity produced is used primarily to power the refrigerated warehouse, which requires a considerable amount of energy to operate the cold rooms. Secondarily, the excess is exchanged with the grid. When the photovoltaic system produces more energy than is consumed in the building, the surplus is fed into the national grid and converted to alternating current. The sale of electricity generates an economic return for Coop Nord Ovest.

It is estimated that the photovoltaic system will avoid CO2 emissions into the atmosphere of about 1185 tonnes, which is equivalent to almost 3000 trees. The installation of the photovoltaic system not only allows Coop Nord Ovest to make considerable savings, but is also perfectly in line with the cooperative’s values of respecting and protecting the environment.
